In June of 2017 Birmingham Country Club celebrated the completion of an extensive, $8 million capital improvement project that renovated the club’s golf course, clubhouse and athletic facilities. The process started with membership approval in the fall of 2014 and took over 30 months to complete.

Golf course renovations included new irrigation and drainage systems, new bunkers and bunker renovations, and complete changes in turf varieties from tee to green.  The club also leveraged the necessary closure of the golf course to complete $2.4 million in improvements to the clubhouse by renovating both the banquet space and member-dining areas, along with the addition of a second casual dining area. This work was featured in a Club & Resort Business – Design & Renovation article on casual dining in November of 2016: HTTPS://CLUBANDRESORTBUSINESS.COM/2016/11/NO-JACKET-REQUIRED-2/.

The project also included the creation of a racquets complex that includes four brand new platform tennis courts along with a new warming hut, and the refurbishment of the existing tennis facilities.  The final phase of the Birmingham Country Club capital improvement project included a makeover of the swimming pool bathhouse and the exciting creation of a new, two-level food-and-beverage outlet aptly named The Dive Bar and High Dive.

Joseph F. Basso, MCM, CCE, the club’s General Manager/Chief Operating Officer notes that the capital project was timed to coincide with the 2016 celebration of the club’s centennial.
